Alkaline Foods List – Lists of Alkalizing and Acidic Food

It is very important to take note that when you eat, it does not only something to do with the amount of pounds or calories that you can gain. What we eat has a lot to do with the chemical balance of our body as well as to our entire health. It you eaten a certain food that can disrupt or harm the chemical balance in our body, it can definitely cause several health problems and conditions.

The pH balance which is 7 considered neutral, but lesser than 7 means acidic and greater than 7 is alkaline. That is why it is important to have enough amount of alkaline than acid in your body.

There are several factors why pH level of the body can predominantly acidic. If this happen, the body should be supplemented with alkaline in order to neutralize and eliminates the extra levels of acid that is trapped within the system. On the other hand, if not appropriately supplied, acidosis may happen, which is associated on developing various health problems and conditions from minor to severe ones.

Foods to Avoid

For you to prevent excessive amount of the acid in your body or you have suffered from a certain health problem and conditions, which is due to acidosis, the main key here is to maintain the pH level on its normal state. One of the best means to maintain the alkaline level of the body, it is ideal to take a normal alkaline diet approach.

Moreover, it is not easy to stick on this type of diet for the reason that you need to avoid some of the most mouth watering and attractive foods that we usually consume such as

  • carbonated beverages
  • coffee
  • condiments
  • alcohol
  • instant foods
  • chocolate
  • seafood
  • dairy products
  • meat products
  • meat and others

That is why most of the people that need to follow this diet find it difficult to follow religiously because it is hard to resist temptations especially if that food is part of your lifestyle.

Foods to Have Plenty Of

Our body needs to have at least ¾ amount of alkaline each day, which means the food you consume each day should be 3 times alkalinity than acidity.  This is important because too much acidity is not good to health. There are several foods that are known to have high level of alkaline and these foods should always be part of your grocery list.
Some of the vegetables that contains enormous amount of alkaline are cucumber, Brussels sprouts, kale, celery, chives, leeks, peas, onion, asparagus, lettuce, garlic, turnip, spinach, watercress, radish, carrots, cabbage and artichokes. Vegetables are not only known to have high amount of alkaline but also promotes good digestion, which is also important for overall health.

It would also be nice to include into your alkaline diet are fruits like lemon, avocado, watermelon, grapefruit, berries, banana, grapes, cantaloupe and peach. Seeds, nuts & grains like lentils, flax, almonds, sunflower, flax, sesame and pumpkin.  For your drinks it is great to choose herbal teas, almond milk, non-sweetened soy milk, vegetable juice and water, instead of caffeinated or carbonated drinks. Lastly, for fats and oils, only choose coconut, evening primrose, flaw and olive.

Due to extensive research and study that experts done in connection with alkaline foods, there are also list of alkaline foods with some variations. As a matter of fact when you research on the internet, one list can be somewhat different from the other list. Generally, it would also be great to consume green leafy vegetable and fresh fruits as well as sweets daily. Meat and other kinds of meat products must be remove on your grocery list, as much as possible. Read on to know some of the foods that contains levels of alkaline.

Alkalizing Food Level (Heavy Alkaline = pH 8.5 – 9.0, Moderate Alkaline = pH 7.5 – 8.0, Light Alkaline = pH 7.0)

  • Watermelon (pH level 9.0) – very refreshing to the body
  • Lemon (pH level 9.0) – it is known as best treatment of coughs, colds, sore throat, gastrointestinal problems and heartburn.
  • Agar ( pH level 8.5) – can be an alternative to gelatin and more nourishing and nutritious
  • Cayenne and Cantaloupe (Capsicum) (pH 8.5) – invigorates and non-irritating alternative to heal the body. It can also bring an outstanding benefit for endocrine system.
  • Papaya, Parsley, Mango, Melons, Limes, Karengo, Kudzu root, Kelp, figs, dried dates (pH level 8.5) – They are very essential for cleaning and purifying the kidneys.
  • Seaweeds, asparagus, watercress and sweet seedless grapes (pH level 8.5) – it reduces acid and best choice as detoxifying agent.
  • Endive, Fruit Juices and Kiwi (pH level 8.5) – Its natural sugar provides alkalinity.
